Overview
During the 2021 Game Makers Toolkit GameJam I once again teamed up with 5 of my friends to make a game in 48 hours. The jams theme was "Tied Together", we wanted to do a more abstract spin on this theme. The idea we landed on was an escape room style game where you play as two space engineers on seperate ships, one broken and one operational, using a radio you can switch between the two ships, allowing you to search the operational ship for clues to help with fixing the broken one. The two engineers are far apart, yet tied together by their ability to communicate, and must use this connection to succeed.
I worked as a Game designer and programmer on this project, all of the design and programming work was split between myself and another designer. I worked mostly on implementing the main game loop, interactable objects and level design. This jam our idea was fairly ambitious and it hindered the game design, neither me or our othe designer specalise in level design, thus we struggled to come up with interesting puzzles within the time limit, that said, I believe we built a solid base for a puzzle game and am very happy we managed to implement a full game loop for this idea in such a short time.
